George Darling, AIF®
George Darling has been a Tucson “native” for more than 40 years. He moved from Maine when he was in 5th grade and later returned during his high school years to attend Fryeburg Academy. George completed Coast Guard training at Fryeburg and earned its highest physical fitness award. He served in the Coast Guard Reserves as a specialist in operations and navigation while majoring in finance at Tulane University. George graduated from the College for Financial Planning in 1986 and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburg in conjunction with the Center for Fiduciary Studies, to become an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) in 2005.
George began his career in the industry in Manhattan before returning to Tucson. In 1986, George joined American Express Financial Advisors and later became an independent franchise owner. Becoming affiliated with an independent broker-dealer was always a goal to best serve his clients, and George opened his own branch, Darling Financial Group, in 2005 with Commonwealth Financial Network®, the nation’s largest privately held independent broker-dealer. He offers independent advice to his clients and has extensive knowledge and experience in financial planning and the tax ramifications of traditional and alternative investments. For personal clients, he specializes in retirement and estate planning. As a business owner himself, George can offer small businesses expert advice on business planning, business valuation, and retirement planning fiduciary responsibilities of plan trustees.
In his spare time George likes skiing, fishing, boating, and hunting. He reads financial magazines and most car rags, and passionately researches the things that interest him. He has served on several boards and various committees of local philanthropic organizations through the years, including event chairman of the Men’s Active 20-30 Club of Tucson, founding board member of the University of Arizona College for Public Health, school related advisory boards and foundation boards, and as a board member, exchange program coordinator, investment and car show committee member of the Rotary Club of Tucson.
George and Dawn Darling have two children, Kate and Jack. Kate is a recent graduate of the University of Arizona and lives in California; and Jack attends Salpointe Catholic High School. George loves the outdoors, which prompted their purchase of Antler Ridge Resort Cabins in Greer, AZ, a small cabin rental property in the White Mountains with great fishing, hiking, and hunting, which he loved to do when growing up in Maine.
